Warning

Shake the control solution bottle well, about 15 times before every use.

  • Unmixed control solution may cause inaccurate results.
  • Do not calibrate your continuous glucose monitoring device from a control result.
  • Do not calculate a bolus based on a control result.

Intended Use

Contour®Next control solutions are aqueous glucose solutions intended for use in self-testing by people with diabetes as a quality control check to ensure that the Contour®Next blood glucose monitoring systems are working properly.

Summary

These control solutions contain a measured amount of glucose.

You should perform a control test:

  • When using your meter for the first time;
  • When you open a new bottle or package of test strips;
  • If you think your meter may not be working properly;
  • If you have repeated, unexpected blood glucose results.

Always consult your health care professional before changing your medication based on Contour®Next test results.

Storage and Handling

  • Store control solutions between 48°F and 86°F.
  • If the meter and/or test strips are moved from one temperature to another, allow 20 minutes for them to adjust to the new temperature before performing a control test. For control solution testing on Contour®Next meters, the operating temperature range is 59°F to 95°F and the humidity range is 10% to 93% RH.
  • It is important not to use the control solution if the expiration date printed on the bottle label and carton has passed or if it has been six months since you first opened the bottle. It will help to write the six-month Discard Date on the label in the area provided when you first open the control solution bottle.
  • No special requirements for control material disposal.
  • Examine product for missing, damaged, or broken parts. Contact Customer Service at 1-800-348-8100 (available Monday through Sunday, 8:00 am through 12:00 Midnight, Eastern Time) for replacement parts.

Test Procedure

Read your Contour®Next meter user guide for complete instructions before testing with the control solution.

Important
  • Shake the control solution bottle well, about 15 times before every use.
  • Unmixed control solution may cause inaccurate results.
  1. Always check the expiration and discard dates before testing.
  2. Use only Contour®Next control solution with your Contour®Next blood glucose test strips. Using any other control solution may cause inaccurate results.
  3. Shake the control solution bottle well, about 15 times before every use.
  4. Remove the bottle cap and use a tissue to wipe away any solution around the bottle tip before dispensing a drop.
  5. Squeeze a small drop of solution onto a clean, nonabsorbent surface. Do not apply control solution to your fingertip or to the test strip directly from the bottle.
  6. Immediately touch the tip of the test strip to the drop of control solution.
  7. Hold the tip in the drop until the meter beeps.
  8. Dispose of test strips as medical waste or as advised by your health care professional.
  9. Always wash your hands well with soap and water before and after testing, handling the meter, lancing device, or test strip.

Test Results

Compare your control test result to the control ranges on the Contour®Next test strip bottle label or carton.

Questionable or Inconsistent Results

If the result you get does not fall within the range listed on the test strip bottle label or carton, there may be a problem with the test strips, the meter or your testing technique. If your control test result is out of range, do not use your Contour®Next meter for blood glucose testing until you resolve the issue. Carefully review the Control Solution Testing section in your Contour®Next meter user guide.

Important: If attempts to correct a problem fail, contact Customer Service at 1-800-348-8100. Customer Service is available Monday through Sunday, 8:00 am through 12:00 Midnight, Eastern Time.
